Imagine a gender-equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. A world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated.
That is the world we strive towards on International Women’s Day (IWD).
International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.
IWD has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people.
Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. IWD is not country, group or organization specific.
This year, IWD is bringing awareness to how we can all collectively #BreakTheBias.
I spoke with the women of Sidi.io to hear their stories and who the inspiring women in their lives are.
ILIYANA
I am personally inspired by my oldest sister Vesper. Ever since we were little she was always working towards accomplishing her goals despite criticism.
Not only is she incredibly creative and talented, but she also taught me new ways to learn that were best suited for my particular visual learning style.
However, despite all the amazing things she’s done and helped me with, what inspires me the most was her dream to go to Japan.
Ever since she was a teenager she worked towards learning Japanese and did everything she could to make her dream a reality. After graduating from university it came true.
My sister moved to Japan and spent over 4 years there teaching English and exploring all of Japan’s beauty.
Vesper is an inspiring woman in my life who continues to work towards her goals and won’t let negativity get in her way. I aspire to continue to follow her path and hope to one day be an inspiration to my sisters as well.

I’ve been in the industry for over 20 years and until I started at Sidi.io I hadn’t been in such a group that actually treats women as equals.
I’ve experienced all sorts of inappropriate behaviours and comments over the years and it’s refreshing to be treated simply as human – and it starts at the top, you can see how it’s contagious and spreads to everyone in the company.
Even more impressive to me, the women at Sidi.io are supporting and uplifting one another.
Women supporting women is one of the most important things we can do for each other.
I’m proud to work with all of my coworkers but I’m truly blessed for the group of women I work with.

Thank you to all the women who have taught me kindness and shared so much knowledge!
Starting with my mom, followed by so many great leaders!
They have empowered me to believe in myself by being part of the most important achievements throughout my career and life.
Thank you!

Ruth Bader Ginsburg has been an inspiration of mine, personally and professionally.
Being the second female justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, she was constantly surrounded by a sea of men.
I have often found myself in similar situations during my university career and then in my professional career. I let RBG encourage me to always be a part of the conversation and to make sure my voice is heard.
Her famous quote: “Real change, enduring change, happens one step at a time,” is something I often remind myself of when I’m feeling overwhelmed and challenged.
It reminds me to be patient and trust the process.

On International Women’s Day, I am inspired by and am thinking of all those who seek out discomfort by being open to change, trying new things, leaving behind all that is familiar to build a brighter future for themselves, their families, and their communities.
VASVI
The woman who inspires me the most is my mom, she is very strong and courageous.
Growing up, she always taught me “you can do whatever you want to do, regardless of your gender” and it was the most affirming thing I could hear from a parent.
CARLA
My grandmother Eleanor was a strong, kind, and compassionate woman who knew the importance of empowering girls from a young age.
She was a devoted volunteer to her local hospital and community, was a mentor and role model for young female golfers, looking to enter a male-dominated scene, coached the Canadian International Junior Girls Golf team in 1979, and devoted her time to encouraging young women to realize their potential.
She has always been someone to look up to as a role model for me and many others.
Giving women the space and opportunity is what she did and I hope to continue her legacy.
Naming my daughter Nora, after her, is a wonderful reminder for me to pass on the torch and encourage others to step into their own power.
SONALI
Inspiration truly comes from within. On this special day, I would love to remind ourselves about self-love. “No one is you and that is your superpower”.
So to all you fabulous women — chin up, make yourself a priority, be the reason for your happiness & success.
