Our team has seen a lot of growth within the past year. With all these new faces on the team, we wanted to take time to put each of our amazing team members in the spotlight.
Bethany Smith, Business Development Manager
What’s your favourite thing about your role?
Connecting with business owners, executives and professionals in various industries. I love learning about what makes them tick and what challenges they are facing. Getting to know people and why they do what they do is one way I can learn something new every day. I love connecting people with other people and seeing it turn into something.
What is the favourite part about working for Sidi.io?
The team. More specifically, the open communication between the team and leadership to support each other. It’s the essence of teamwork here. Even though many of us have never met in person, we feel very connected in our individual roles.
What are 3 words to describe Sidi.io?
Precise, Agile, and Tactical.
Where did you grow up?
A small town, called Hunter River in Prince Edward Island.
How do you relax?
I’m most relaxed on a beach, preferably in PEI with my family.
What’s your biggest pet peeve?
Paying for parking.
Do you have a favourite colour?
Does Black & White count? Otherwise, I go through the seasons with colour. I latch on to one colour and I buy it/pick it for everything for a significant amount of time until I start to resonate with a new colour, right now I’m really into earthy, olive greens.
What celebrity do people think you look like?
I’ve gotten a few. I’ve been told I look like Kate Beirness, and more recently Camila Mendes, and Alison Brie.
What is the first concert you attended?
Being an east coast girl, music was a big part of growing up so it’s hard to say which was the first one. Probably something with a fiddle or maybe Great Big Sea, but if I had to guess it was probably The Tragically Hip or Our Lady Peace.
Do you have a favourite hobby?
Equestrian sports, I think I rode horses before I could walk. It’s definitely my happy place.
What is your favourite quote of all time?
“Control your controllables.” One of the best leaders I had in my time at RBC, Steve Rustan, would say this to our team often. I often say it to myself in both my personal and professional life. It’s all about showing up, not worrying about your mistakes or about other people’s judgment and doing your best each day. The rest will come.
How has Sidi.io helped you in your career development?
Sidi.io is a strong team that teaches me every day to have more fun in my work and embrace my creative side. Look out Don Draper there’s a new girl in town! This is a role and a company that pushes me to think on my feet and keep looking forward. We all feel like we are working for a bigger purpose and that the future is bright ahead.
What’s the most epic thing you’ve done for a client/craziest and most successful thing?
It might not seem too crazy or epic but I would say, I listened. Coming from a financial background I’ve been with clients who are going through the toughest times of their lives. Being there for them and simply listening to their stories meant more to them and me than anything else I could have done. Being heard is one of the most impactful things you can do for a client no matter what business you are in.
